THAILAND
Kingdom of Thailand, a country of constitutional monarchy
known as Siam before 1939, was established in 1238 and is
one of the most celebrated and fascinating travel
destinations. As this venerable country had kept most of its
unique traditions and customs during the development,
Thailand became one of the most mystical and attractive
areas in the modern world.
Situated in Southeast Asia, Thailand borders Myanmar in the
northwest, Laos in the northeast, Cambodia in the southeast
and Malaysia in the south. About 65 million people live on
the land of 517 thousand square kilometers (about 200
thousand square miles). 75 percent of the population are
Thai, 11 percent are Chinese and there are also Malays,
Kampucheans, Burmans and Indians. The official language of
Thailand is Thai, but English is also popular and is used in
most tourist sites, like attractions, hotels, restaurants
and stores. Thailand is a multi-religious country, which
contains Buddhism, Islam, Christianity and Hinduism.
Buddhism is most widely believed religion with more than 95
percent people as its adherents. The government in Thailand
gives adherents the right of complete religious toleration
and all the religions are under the protection of Thailand
Constitution.
Bangkok, the capital city of the Kingdom of Thailand since
1782, has a population of about one tenth of the country's
total number and is the educational, diplomatic, political,
financial, economic and cultural center of the country. As
the largest city of Thailand and the second largest of
Southeast Asia, Bangkok is a developed modern city with
high-quality hotels, hospitals, shopping malls and many
other recreational services. Meanwhile, from either the
architectural styles or people's everyday lives, it still
keeps alive a respect for conventional habitudes.
Maybe influenced by the tropical climate, the Kingdom of
Thailand is a very easy-going country which is noted for its
friendly and hospitable people. Together with the beautiful
sceneries, charming local customs, high-class services and
inexpensive spending, Thailand is your must-see of an Asia
tour. |
